PLATEAU NORTHERN PDP ROARS IN UNITY, SET TONE FOR 2027

The build-up to the 2027 general elections in Plateau State gained fresh momentum on Thursday, August 28, 2025, as the Northern Zonal Caucus of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) openly declared total support for Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and his Deputy, Hon. Josephine Piyo, for a second term in office.

The endorsement, announced during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Landfield Resort Event Center, Jos South, also extended to the State PDP Chairman, Hon. Chris Hassan, and the entire state executive.

Speaking after the meeting, Northern Zonal Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Davou Mang, said the caucus reached a unanimous verdict after reviewing the performance of the Mutfwang administration. He highlighted achievements in education, tourism, agriculture, transportation, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development as the compelling reasons behind the decision.

Mang declared emphatically: “The Northern Zone has endorsed Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his Deputy Josephine Piyo for a second term. There is no vacancy at Little Rayfield in 2027.”

The meeting further passed a vote of confidence on Hon. Chris Hassan and his team, encouraging them to also seek a second term in office for their loyalty and resilience in steering the party.

By this development, the Northern Zone has:

Reaffirmed its confidence in Governor Mutfwang’s leadership.

Signaled continuity of governance with an early endorsement for 2027.

Projected unity within the PDP family across Plateau State.

Sent a strong message of readiness to consolidate power in the next election cycle.

The event, which observers described as a demonstration of PDP’s strength, drew top political leaders, former ministers, ex-lawmakers, serving commissioners, council chairmen, grassroots mobilizers, and a host of party loyalists.

Speaking at the meeting, former governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah David Jang, recalled the internal challenges of the PDP at the national level during the 2023 elections. He noted that while he and other leaders had advised the party to zone its presidential ticket to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years in office, the advice was ignored, leading to the party’s eventual loss in the general election. According to him, many who claimed to be the founding fathers of the PDP have since defected to other political parties. “No responsible father runs away from his home,” he remarked pointedly.

Sen. Jang, however, expressed deep satisfaction with the leadership style and achievements of Governor Mutfwang, stressing that the Governor’s policies have brought visible transformation across the state. “The entire state is smiling as nearly all parts of the state are feeling the impact of the Governor. That brings me satisfaction as a father,” he stated.

He further described Plateau as a divinely ordained state, warning that anyone attempting to instigate division among Plateau’s diverse ethnic groups or to fight against the state would ultimately be contending with God Himself. “No one wins fighting God Almighty,” the elder statesman declared.

With this bold declaration of support from the Northern Zone and the rallying voice of elder statesmen like Sen. Jang, the PDP in Plateau appears poised to enter the 2027 race with renewed confidence, unity, and a strong sense of purpose.
